Before Camp

Campers must be checked in at the sign-in table in the museum each morning. Campers are supervised as they play games or watch a movie. Campers are escorted to their camp room at 10 AM.

After Camp

Campers are escorted to the after camp classrooms at the end of the camp day. Campers are supervised as they play games or do craft activities in the classrooms. A snack is provided in the afternoon. Campers must be picked up by 5:30 PM, after which an extra charge of $1.00 per minute will be applied.

Advanced Lego Robotics (Ages 10-12)

 

You'll use RobotC, a new interface writing code (just like real computer programmers do) to control your LEGO Mindstorms NXT™ robot! Put your new skills to the test as you compete with other teams by completing programming challenges using RobotC and the Robot Educator Model. Explore computer programming while solving problems and winning challenges with your team.

Amazing Animals (Ages 8-9)

 

Join the safari at the Museum as you discover some of the strangest animals on Earth! From meat-eating predators to the tiniest amebas, your world is full of amazing creatures! Explore the Museum's live animal collection, butterfly center, and exhibit halls as we "hunt"  for some of the most amazing animals on earth. Camp includes dissection.

Archeology 101 (Ages 10-12)

Dead men really do tell tales! Come explore the science of Archeology from shards to skulls and beyond. Discover what you can learn from garbage, experiment with ways to clean artifacts, and participate in mock digs. Take a fieldtrip to the George Ranch Historical Park on Friday. The bus will leave at 9:00 a.m. and return at 4:00 p.m.

Back Stage Pass (Ages 10-12)

You are an investigative journalist assigned to go behind the scenes with your all-access pass! Visit areas the public never sees: the Giant Screen projection booth, the Butterfly Center, the inner workings of the Planetarium, and the Live Animal Room as you learn the secrets and science behind the Museum. Interview museum curators, take photographs with a digital camera, and then compile your investigation on your very own website. You never know what you will discover!

Be dazzled by the science behind makeup, jewelry, lotions, and more! Learn the chemistry behind beauty products, as you make your own. Discover how ancient Egyptians made and used make-up.

Booms and Blastoffs (Ages 6-7)

Experiment with things that go BOOM, from foaming chemicals to popping balloons. Make Bernoulli flying machines (from loopers to helicopters) with paper, water, straws, funnels, balls, and balloons. Create rockets and airplanes that are yours to take home.

Creepy Crawlies (Ages 6-7)

 

Caterpillars, beetles, worms, and other creepy crawly things are cool!  Collect your own specimens, then build miniature habitats to house and observe them.  Dissect a grasshopper and build a model anthill.  Camp includes optional bug tasting activity.  Class includes dissection.

Learn to lift and develop fingerprints, sample soils, cast footprints and teeth, and make rope impressions. Use special software to create a face to match the descriptions of witnesses. Full Tilt Physics (Ages 10-12)

How fast is a speeding bullet? Explore the science of speed from acceleration and air resistance to collisions and crashes. Design and build hovercrafts, cars, planes, and other vehicles then modify them to maximize their velocity. The race is on!

Get Set to Be a Vet (Ages 10-12)

Do you know what it takes to keep animals healthy and happy? Is your chinchilla too chilly? Is your pet viper too hyper? Examine the living animals of HMNS as you learn what a vet does to take care of our animal friends. Besides plenty of hands-on experience with live animals, you'll perform dissections to learn the inner workings of an animal's body. Camp includes dissection.
